Alcohol Testing
Alcohol testing includes urine alcohol testing (ETG), preliminary breath test (PBT) and the breath alcohol test (EBT). Urine alcohol tests and PBT tests are inexpensive, easy to conduct, making them a great option for personal uses, like parents wanting to determine if their child consumed alcohol, as well as legal such as probation alcohol testing.
However, standard alcohol testing may not be best suited for workplace testing. It’s difficult to relate the urine concentration of alcohol to the legal benchmark, which is blood alcohol. For workplace clients who wish to determine impairment or the prohibited use of alcohol Michigan Court Services recommends breath alcohol testing.
Drug Testing
Michigan Court Services uses different types of testing including multi drug screening tests for detection of Marijuana (THC), Cocaine (COC), Oxycodone (OXY), Ecstasy (MDMA), Buprenorphine (BUP), Morphine / Opiates (MOP), Amphetamines (AMP), Barbiturates (BAR), Benzodiazepines (BZO), Methamphetamines (MET), Methadone (MTD), Phencyclidine (PCP) as well other abused illicit and prescription drugs.
Employers and individuals seeking a cost-effective and time-tested method for detecting virtually any drug choose urine screenings. There are many advantages of urine testing. Drugs rapidly make their way into a person’s urine, and thus can be detected almost immediately after consumption.
Saliva Drug Testing – Oral Fluids Drug Test
The mouth swab drug test is the least invasive method of drug testing. It does not require needle pokes, cutting your hair from the roots as with hair follicle drug test or peeing in a cup.

In reality, any employer that wants to ensure a safe, productive work environment and lowers risk of the negatives brought on by employee drug use, should conduct employment drug testing.
When Employment Drug Testing Usually Occurs
An employee drug testing program will include screening both pre-employment and post-hire. Employers should consider when testing will take place and make sure the requirements are consistent throughout the company.
-
Pre-Employment – The most common type of drug test is pre-employment drug testing, conducted as a condition of future employment.
-
Post-Accident – Employers should conduct employee drug testing after an accident/incident to determine if drug use may have played a role.
-
Random – Most employers wants to establish a random employee alcohol and drug testing program where a percentage of all employees are randomly screened throughout the year. This is an excellent way to ensure employees remain drug-free beyond the standard pre-employment drug testing.
-
Reasonable Suspicion – It is even more vital with the rise in marijuana use, employers can require employee drug testing when illegal drug use is suspected. Employers are strongly encouraged to train their managers on how to accurately detect and handle reasonable suspicion situations.
-
Pre-Placement - For employees who are returning to work after an injury or absence
-
Return to Duty – For those employees that fail an employee drug test and are ready to return to the workplace may be required to submit a return-to-duty employee drug test.
